Laly Blue
Homage to my beloved dog Laly.
Laly has been an Icon in almost all of my paintings for many years. She was rescued by our neighbor from a market where people abandoned her as a puppy, together with her brother puppy. My wife “borrowed her” as she was so sweet. But she kept going back to her brother at the neighbor, reason why we called her Laly (Melali in Balinese means to walk around), and her brother would come to our house to play with her too. Finally, Laly decided to stay with us (this was so premeditated and obvious from the start). She used to follow me everywhere and was always staying in my studio while I was painting, such a symbol of faithfulness and friendship.
So I decided one day to introduce her in my painting, she was so present in my daily life. Originally I used to paint her with her original light brown coat, but as I swing in surrealism, I tried to change her coat to different colors: Red didn’t work as she looked like she had been skinned out, Green was ok, but it didn’t fit her character, so Blue came out and it was a perfect match, as I used to paint trees in blue too. Some months ago she let life go and went to the rainbow bridge, she was 12.
So now she is up there in the stars, sure, she’s always been a Superstar.
I even made a logo for her, LB.
Farewell sweet Laly, in Eternity You Shine.
